Sarah Akin 1Sarah arrived late Thursday afternoon, making the arduous journey from Jonesboro to Mountain Home for two days of makeover fun! The lovely Marla of Shine Salon was more than cordial in her care of us. Sarah spent the evening relaxing for her Marvelous! mani/pedi with a white wine spritzer and some great conversation.

Sarah Akin is the current Arkansas State President of the Business and Professional Women’s Association. She has been a BPW member for eight years and has served in many different capacities. She is a strong supporter of women’s issues and has had the unique opportunity to reinvent herself many times on a professional level.

She spent many years working as a marketing/sales rep for a large corporation, frequently traveling the country for business. When it was time to slow down, she decided to make a career change and went to work for a more localized company in Memphis in sales and marketing. She is currently the regional client family consultant and marketing director for Home Instead Senior Care, a company that helps the elderly stay home as an alternative to nursing home care.

Friday was spent doing hair, makeup, clothing, and photos before Sarah made the long drive back to her home in Jonesboro. She liked her new “do” so much that she asked Marla to style her hair the next time she came to Mountain Home for a special event!

In our conversations since the makeover, Sarah has said she is trying to keep her new look and has even jokingly told her friends that she “fought the whole thing.”

“I felt like queen for the day,” Sarah said. “I think every woman should be able to feel like that sometimes.”

Thank you!

Sarah lives in Jonesboro. She has two children, Chris Akin of Jonesboro and Kimberly Akin Owens of Eureka Springs, and three grandchildren—Kristen, 20, Clay, 6, and Jonathan James, 9. Her husband, Jim, passed in 2000.
