My kids and I love to go camping. Yes, I still tent camp! Caitlin and I went up to Mt. Magazine last year and picked the coldest day of the year. We almost froze to death. No wonder we were the only ones in the campground. But the hiking was glorious! We are blessed to live in an area where we can enjoy the beauty of nature right in our own backyard.

My favorite way to enjoy nature is walking on David’s Trail with Paige, my sweet Corgi!

I enjoy nature with a group of women called WHO (Women Hiking the Ozarks). This wonderful group of women hike almost every Wednesday through the cooler months. Because of them I’ve grown in confidence and have become very adventurous. We’ve been to some amazing places. Hiking keeps us young!

I never considered myself to be athletic, although I have always enjoyed the outdoors. I love to walk in the woods and enjoy a quiet day by a lake or a river watching my husband fish. When we moved here from Pennsylvania, I found a wonderful group of women who love hiking. I decided to join them and found myself looking forward to our Wednesday adventures. Now, from October to May, you will find me with Women Hiking the Ozarks (WHO), climbing Sam’s Throne, hiking to Indian Rock Cave or exploring the beauty of a Buffalo River Trail. I have even been to Mount Magazine and Petit Jean for overnight trips with this great group of women. There is no better way to enjoy nature in Arkansas!

I make a picnic lunch, grab the binoculars, call the dogs and head down to Sister Creek, a place on our property that constantly changes and is always beautiful. I never know what I will hear or see. I just listen and smile. Extremely peaceful!

My favorite way to enjoy nature is sculling. I taught the sport at UCLA. I now row my single shell scull on Lake Norfolk and the White River. Sculling is a graceful, serene, and physically demanding sport. I feel one with nature when rowing through the early morning fog and listening to the subtle splash of the oars as they break the water’s silence.
